Working Principles AC Bypass Principle: Utilizing the characteristics of capacitors having low impedance to AC signals and inductors offering resistance to AC currents while filtering out specific frequency AC signals, a filter circuit composed of capacitors and inductors is designed to bypass the induced AC currents on the pipeline to the ground, eliminating the impact of AC interference on the cathodic protection system.
Overvoltage Protection Principle: Internally, nonlinear resistive components such as metal oxide varistors (MOVs) are typically employed. Under normal operating voltage, their resistance is extremely high, allowing almost no current to pass through. When subjected to overvoltage impacts such as lightning strikes or surges, their resistance rapidly decreases, entering a low-resistance state, thereby quickly diverting the large current generated by the overvoltage to the ground and limiting the voltage amplitude on the pipeline.
DC Decoupling Principle: Unidirectional conduction components, such as diodes, are used. When the cathodic protection current flows in the normal direction, the unidirectional conduction component is in a conducting state, allowing the cathodic protection current to pass through. When external DC stray currents attempt to enter the pipeline, the reverse blocking characteristic of the unidirectional conduction component prevents the DC stray currents from entering. Additionally, DC decoupling can be achieved by monitoring and controlling the potential difference between the pipeline and the ground.
