Features of cast iron lapping plates: simple operation, fast abrasive application, sufficient embedded abrasive quantity, and ease of reapplying the same type of abrasive after use. After polishing, the surface finish significantly improves; it easily achieves the high surface finish and lapping compatibility required for gauge blocks, resulting in a mirror-like, bright blue finish on the workpiece. Grade 0 lapping platforms have uniform structure, dense composition, and are free from defects such as sand holes, porosity, and looseness. They allow easy abrasive application, uniform and abundant abrasive distribution, firmly embedded abrasive particles, and strong cutting performance. The surface is smooth, oily, sky-blue in appearance, and highly wear-resistant. Abrasive embedding plates are manufactured according to the JB/T7974-1999 standard, with the working surface processed using lapping techniques. They are used for workpiece lapping, repair of measuring tools, and achieve a surface roughness of Ra ≤ 0.08μm after lapping with the plate.
Cast iron lapping plates are produced by manually scraping and leveling cast iron plates, followed by mutual lapping of three plates using diamond abrasive. Although their flatness can be very good, they can only be used for rough lapping of certain workpieces or for inspection purposes. They are absolutely unsuitable for lapping gauge blocks, micrometer lapping tools, or sealing workpieces, as they will scratch the workpiece and worsen the condition with further lapping. In contrast, abrasive embedding plates do not have this issue because they undergo further processing beyond the standard lapping plate. This involves the abrasive embedding process, where the embedded diamond abrasive in the lapping plate is extruded through mutual lapping of three plates with prepared lapping paste, followed by gradual fine lapping using W-series white corundum micropowder until it meets standards and will not scratch the workpiece.
