Precautions for Silicon Carbide Rods:

1. Silicon carbide rods must be matched for resistance before use. First, connect rods with the same or similar resistance values together.

2. Equip silicon carbide rods with a voltage regulation device. Initially, apply half of their normal operating voltage, and after stabilizing for a period, gradually increase the voltage. This prevents the rods from breaking due to rapid temperature rise.

3. Silicon carbide rods have a long service life under continuous use but a shorter life under intermittent use.

4. When using silicon carbide rods, select a reasonable surface load density and operating temperature. The operating temperature should not exceed 1650°C; in environments with harmful gases, take extra care to prevent chemical reactions between the rods and the gases.

5. When replacing silicon carbide rods, choose rods with resistance values close to those currently in use in the furnace. If necessary, replace all rods in the furnace to extend their service life. Removed rods with suitable resistance can be reused in the later stages of furnace operation.

6. Prevent molten metal from splashing onto silicon carbide rods, as this can easily cause breakage.

7. Avoid corrosion of silicon carbide rods by alkalis, alkaline earth metals, and basic oxides.

8. Regularly check whether the readings of the ammeter, voltmeter, and thermometer are normal; ensure that the cold-end clamps are not loose, oxidized, blackened, or sparking; check for any broken rods; and verify that the heating section of the rods glows uniformly red.
