The characteristics of jib cranes are basically the same as those of bridge cranes. They can operate in circular areas and above, and are mostly used for outdoor loading, unloading, and installation tasks. Types include portal cranes, floating cranes, derrick cranes, wall-traveling cranes, and deck cranes.
Jib cranes consist of: hoisting mechanism, luffing mechanism, and slewing mechanism. Through the coordinated actions of these mechanisms, loads can be lifted and transported within a certain cylindrical space. Jib cranes are often mounted on vehicles or other forms of transport (mobile) tools, thus forming traveling jib slewing cranes. Examples include truck cranes, tire cranes, tower cranes, portal cranes, floating cranes, and railway cranes.

There are three forms: column type, wall-mounted type, and balanced crane.
①Column jib crane is a type where the jib can rotate around a fixed column mounted on the base, or the jib is rigidly connected to the rotating column, and they rotate together relative to the vertical centerline within the base support. It is suitable for occasions with small lifting capacity and where the operating range is circular or扇形. Generally used for workpiece clamping and handling of machine tools, etc.
Column jib cranes mostly use electric chain hoists as the hoisting and traveling mechanisms, and less frequently use electric wire rope hoists and hand chain hoists. Slewing and horizontal moving operations are mostly manual, and electric drive is only used when the lifting capacity is large.
②Wall-mounted crane is a cantilever crane fixed on the wall, or a cantilever crane that can run along an elevated track on the wall or other supporting structures.
Wall-traveling cranes are used in workshops or warehouses with large spans and high building heights, and are most suitable when lifting operations near the walls are frequent. Wall-traveling cranes are often used in conjunction with overhead beam or bridge cranes, serving a cuboid space near the walls, responsible for lifting light and small objects, while large items are handled by beam or bridge cranes.
③Balanced crane, commonly known as balance hoist, uses the four-bar linkage mechanism principle to form a balanced system between the load and the counterweight. It can use various lifting tools to flexibly and easily lift loads in three-dimensional space. Balanced cranes are lightweight and flexible, making them ideal lifting equipment for small items.
