Cleaning of alloy bearing shells: Place the bearing shells in a 10%-15% cleaning agent 1 solution to remove rust, then place them in hot water at 80 degrees Celsius to eliminate remaining dirt. After washing, place the bearing shells in hot water at 70 degrees Celsius to rinse off any residual contaminants. After cleaning, avoid touching the inner surface of the bearing shells with your hands. Sometimes, due to prolonged storage after removing old alloy, an oxide layer may form on the surface. Before tinning, perform a 3-minute weak corrosion with cleaning agent solution, then immediately immerse in cleaning agent 2 solution for 2 minutes to neutralize, followed by rinsing with hot water. 2. The adhesion strength of tin to the bearing shell is better than that of Babbitt metal. Tinning helps the Babbitt alloy adhere more firmly. The materials used for tinning are tin or tin alloys, along with a flux. The flux removes surface oxides and grease, ensuring a strong bond. Tinning methods include the wiping method and the dipping method. 3. Removing contaminants: Use a blowtorch flame or heating furnace to heat the back of the bearing shell to remove old Babbitt metal. Carefully clean the melted Babbitt metal from the bearing shell with a steel brush, eliminating dirt, rust, and traces of Babbitt alloy. The representative composition (by mass fraction) of tin-based Babbitt alloy is: antimony 3%~15%, copper 2%~6%, cadmium <1%, and the remainder tin. Known for its anti-friction properties, tin-based and lead-based bearing alloys were invented by American Isaac Babbitt, hence the name.
