UPE Sheet (Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene)

UHMWPE has excellent wear resistance, good low-temperature impact resistance, self-lubricating properties, non-toxicity, water resistance, and chemical resistance. Its heat resistance is better than that of ordinary PE, but its disadvantages include low heat resistance (heat deformation temperature), poor processability, and lower surface hardness, rigidity, and creep resistance compared to general engineering plastics, along with a relatively high expansion coefficient. UHMWPE has poor flowability and extremely high viscosity in the molten state, behaving like a rubber-like highly viscoelastic material. In the early days, it could only be formed by compression molding and sintering methods, but it can now also be processed by extrusion, injection molding, and blow molding.

UHMWPE Flow Modification:
① Blending UHMWPE with LCP significantly improves flowability, allowing processing with a single-screw extruder; the more LCP added, the better the flowability of the blend;
② Blending UHMWPE with PE, with PE content below 30%, ensures the blend has good processability without significantly reducing its excellent properties;
③ Adding less than 10% of polyethylene wax, stearates, or other additives to UHMWPE;
④ Adding 3–5% of layered nano-silicate to UHMWPE can achieve a melt flow index of 0.2–0.4 g/10min;
⑤ Adding 1% of fumed silica to UHMWPE can act as a nucleating agent for polyethylene to improve flowability.
