The assembly of the space frame is generally carried out on-site. Before leaving the factory, bolted spherical node space frames should undergo pre-assembly to check component dimensions and deviations. The assembly of the space frame should be carried out using strip assembly, block assembly, or overall assembly, depending on the construction and installation methods. Assembly should be conducted on a flat, rigid platform. For space frames with welded hollow spherical nodes, the assembly sequence should be correctly chosen during assembly to reduce welding deformation and welding stress. Based on extensive domestic engineering experience, the welding sequence should progress from the center toward both ends or the periphery, preferably from the center outward. This is because, as the space frame is assembled forward, both ends and the front can contract freely. Additionally, after welding one bay, the dimensions and geometric shape can be checked, allowing welders to make adjustments during the positioning welding of the next bay. During space frame assembly, the formation of closed loops should be avoided, as welding within a closed loop can result in significant welding stress.

During space frame assembly, the lower chord is generally welded first, causing it to arch upward due to contraction, followed by the web members and chord members. When assembling with individual components (without using small pre-assembled units), if all members are positioned and welded in place, full-scale welding may easily cause the pre-positioned welds to fracture. This is because, under such conditions, the welds have no free edges to contract, similar to welding within a closed loop. The solution is to slow down the welding process and adopt a cyclic welding method, such as welding one seam at node A and then moving to another location.
