BASF Group's 11 business segments carry out strategic and operational functions, divided by business area or product. These segments manage the operations of 52 global and regional business units and develop strategies for 72 strategic business units.

BASF's regional and country-based companies serve as its local representatives, leveraging their proximity to customers to support the development of major business divisions. For financial reporting purposes, we divide regional operations into four segments: Europe, North America, Asia Pacific, and South America/Africa/Middle East.
To further enhance our R&D capabilities, BASF restructured its global R&D framework in 2022 to better align with customer needs. As part of this restructuring, we integrated downstream R&D activities into respective business divisions and consolidated broadly related activities into one R&D department. This department will continue to operate globally with R&D centers in Europe, North America, and Asia Pacific.
Five service divisions, including Global Engineering Services, Global Digital Services, Global Procurement, European Site & Verbund Management, and Global Business Services (covering finance, human resources, environmental protection, health and safety, intellectual property, communications, procurement, supply chain, and internal consulting), provide competitive services to business operating divisions and production sites.
We have promoted the integration of services and resources within Global Business Services and fully leveraged the advantages of digital processes.
The Corporate Center assists the BASF Executive Board in guiding the entire group's operations, involving the following core responsibilities: strategy, finance, compliance, legal and tax, environmental protection, health, safety and quality, human resources, communications, investor relations, internal audit, and the Net Zero Accelerator unit.
