DIN51130 and DIN51097 Standard Test Panels

The German standard test method requires an operator to walk on the test surface wearing footwear (DIN 51130) or barefoot (DIN 51097). Also known as the ramp test, the test involves an inclined surface where the angle can be adjusted under the operator's control. The test surface can be sprayed with liquid contaminants at a specified rate, such as engine oil (DIN 51130) or soap solution (DIN 51097). The operator, wearing restrained footwear, gradually increases the inclination of the ramp until he or she feels unsafe or slips while walking. The angle at which slipping occurs is used to establish an R-rating classification for the footwear test (Table 2) and a B or C rating for the barefoot test (Table 3).
