Slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, acetone, and benzene. Has a strong aldehyde odor. |
| Uses | Used as an intermediate in pharmaceuticals and dyes. The pesticide Tetradifon, produced from o-chlorobenzaldehyde, controls mites on dry crops and fruit trees. Oximation of o-chlorobenzaldehyde yields o-chlorobenzaldoxime, and further chlorination gives o-chlorobenzyl chloride oxime, both of which are pharmaceutical intermediates. |
