The Role and Function of Test Iron Floors in the Mechanical Industry
Purpose of Test Iron Floors: Test iron floors serve as a reference surface for height measurement: Place the object to be measured along with the dial indicator stand on the platform to perform comparative height measurements, after which the height can be compared with standard gauge blocks. Reference surface for parallelism measurement: Fix the dial indicator stand, then bring the dial indicator pointer into contact with the surface of the object to be measured. By moving the object, the parallelism between the workpiece surface and the test iron floor surface can be inspected. Reference surface for angle measurement: Using the platform as a reference surface, in combination with a sine bar and protractor, angle measurements can be conducted. Reference surface for marking: Marking work can be carried out according to the dimensions on the working drawing. Additionally, scale lines can be engraved on the surface of the marking platform based on usage requirements, making marking, measurement, and other tasks more convenient.
Test iron floors, also known as T-slot plates, are strictly manufactured according to standards, using cast iron as the material, ensuring stable precision and durability. Test iron floors are cast iron platform measuring tools with T-slots on the surface, used for assembling and debugging mechanical equipment. They are produced in accordance with the GB4986-85 standard, offering stable precision and excellent wear resistance. The working surface of test iron floors is machined with T-slots, primarily used to secure workpieces, serving as a foundational platform for fitters to debug, assemble, maintain, and test equipment.
The casting of test iron floors is one of the earliest metal thermal processing techniques mastered by humans, with a history of approximately 6,000 years. In modern production, test iron floor casting still holds significant importance, and the development of the casting industry plays an irreplaceable role in promoting economic growth and advancing related industries.
During the machining process, the test iron floor is first placed on the machining table and secured with clamps. Then, the tool processes the required areas of the castings. After machining is completed, the clamps are released, and the castings are removed for cleaning. At this point, machining is complete. The first step in deburring and grinding test iron floors involves tumbling the machined castings to gradually achieve the designed dimensions of the test iron floor. This is followed by manual polishing and vibration grinding to further reduce the surface roughness of the test iron floor, preparing it for subsequent chemical passivation. The final step involves drying the ground castings to prevent oxidation during storage.
Test iron floors are used for various inspection tasks, such as serving as a reference plane for measurement, inspecting and measuring various machine tools and machinery, checking the dimensional accuracy and positional deviations of parts, and performing marking. Test iron floors are indispensable products in over 20 industries, including machine tools, mechanical manufacturing, and electronics production.
When using test iron floors, ensure the surface is clean, workpieces are firmly secured, and welding time is controlled. After workpieces are loaded and unloaded, prevent steel plate deformation. Even high-quality products should not be stored in damp or dark conditions. Regularly inspect the flatness of the plates. Welded plates exhibit good casting performance and machinability, adhering to standardized production processes. After welding, alloy plates offer excellent heat resistance and durability, making welded steel plates widely used in industrial production.
Although gray cast iron used in test iron floors has low plasticity and toughness, it still possesses considerable strength, with tensile strength comparable to that of steel—typically 3-4 times its compressive strength. This is why gray cast iron is suitable for test iron floors, machine bases, and other castings. Gray cast iron also has good lubricating properties. When used to manufacture parts subjected to sliding friction in electromechanical equipment, it provides excellent wear resistance. In the presence of moisture, graphite acts as an effective lubricant, and the spaces left behind when graphite detaches from the matrix facilitate the retention of lubricating oil. This is one of the key reasons why gray cast iron is an excellent material for such applications.
