The all-metal rainfall sensor is a newly developed metal rainfall sensor that detects rainfall through the flipping of its internal dual tipping buckets and converts it into measurable physical signals. The main components of this sensor are made of metal, featuring a robust housing, high strength, and excellent protection. Additionally, it includes carefully designed details such as a double-layer filter screen, fully enclosed structure, and pre-reserved water guide pipe openings to ensure higher measurement accuracy of observed rainfall data and reduce the likelihood of pipe blockages or circuit failures.

Working Principle

Rainwater collected by the rain receiver passes through the upper cylinder (funnel) and enters the measuring tipping bucket—a stainless steel component divided into two equal-volume chambers by a central partition. It operates as a mechanical bistable structure: while one chamber collects water, the other remains in a waiting state. When the collected rainwater volume reaches a preset value of 0.2 mm (or 0.5 mm), gravity causes the bucket to tip, switching the roles of the chambers. A magnet mounted on the side wall of the tipping bucket scans past a dry reed switch during each tip, causing the switch to open or close. Each tip of the bucket sends a switch signal (pulse signal).

Applications

The all-metal rainfall sensor is a hydrological and meteorological instrument used to measure natural rainfall and convert it into digital information output in the form of switch signals to meet the needs of information transmission, processing, recording, and display. It can be used by meteorological stations, hydrological stations, agricultural and forestry departments, field monitoring stations, and other relevant sectors, in conjunction with our company’s rainfall recorders to measure precipitation, rainfall intensity, and rainfall duration.
