Product Overview

The soil water potential sensor can be inserted into a soil profile pit and surrounded with moist soil. Measurement and recording are straightforward. Maintenance-free and capable of measuring a wide range of soil water potentials without calibration; no watering required, making it an ideal sensor for measuring water potential in natural systems, particularly the air gaps measured by tensiometers.





Applications The CG-36 Soil Water Potential Sensor can be integrated into online agricultural weather instruments of small weather stations.

This product is suitable for irrigation, drainage, providing scientific basis for crop growth, and research on soil moisture in arid regions, permafrost, roadbeds, and other fields.





Working Principle

Soil water potential is the energy required to extract a unit of water from the soil under isothermal conditions, measured in kilopascals (kPa). When the soil is saturated with water, the water potential is zero; when the water content is below saturation, the water potential is negative, and the drier the soil, the greater the negative value. In plant water requirement studies, soil water content alone cannot reflect availability to plants; soil water potential is an indicator of drought severity.
