Why Wire Rope Clips Cannot Be Used Indiscriminately Without Distinguishing Left and Right

As is well known, the main purpose of wire rope clips is to fasten the ends of wire ropes. Typically, the outer layer of a wire rope consists of six strands twisted at an angle in a right-hand direction. However, not all wire ropes on the market are right-twist; left-twist ropes are becoming increasingly common. According to the national standard GB/T5976-2006 for wire rope clips, it is explicitly required that the surface of the wire rope must align with the groove direction of the clip base in terms of twist direction. From this, it can be concluded that if it is a left-twist wire rope, a left-twist wire rope clip must be selected to comply with usage specifications. Due to cost competition in the market, most products are primarily made of ordinary cast iron (also known as malleable iron), and market demand factors have led to a lack of left-twist clips. Some gray iron cast clips are even used for critical wire rope applications. According to the national standard GB/T5976-2006 for wire rope clips, when wire rope clips are used on lifting machinery, it is recommended to use (national standard forged) wire rope clips for better performance.
