Operation of Plate Heat Exchanger

1. Startup Operation and Precautions

(1) When using a new process pipeline, ensure the removal of debris within the pipeline to prevent clogging the heat exchanger.

(2) If using sewage as a cooling medium, recovering waste heat from sewage, or if the medium contains granular solids, install a filter or dirt separator at the inlet of the heat exchanger to avoid clogging.

(3) When the temperature of the cooling water (being heated) exceeds 40°C, softening treatment should be performed as much as possible to prevent scaling in the heat exchanger, which could affect heat transfer efficiency.

(4) Check whether the pipeline connections are correct to avoid mixing of the two media, which could lead to adverse consequences.

(5) Before startup, strictly inspect whether the inlet valves for the cold and hot media are closed and the outlet valves are open.

(6) After completing the above steps, the system can be started. Begin by starting the pumps for the cold and hot media, slowly open the inlet valve for the cold medium, and then open the inlet valve for the hot medium to allow the media to flow slowly into the heat exchanger, preventing excessively high temperatures.

(7) Check all sealing surfaces and welded joints for any leaks or abnormal phenomena.

(8) Gradually increase the temperature while measuring and calculating whether the process requirements are met. Once satisfied, proceed to normal operation.
