NIMBUS Dr. Thunder Lightning Rod Product Features

When lightning strikes any protruding structure on Earth, it generates a considerable discharge current. Passive protection systems offer a smaller protection range for buildings, making them unable to fully handle the massive discharge currents produced by lightning strikes.

The NIMBUS Early Streamer Emission (ESE) system emits high-voltage pulses at a fixed frequency and range. This system establishes an upward-leading path that combines with the downward-leading path of lightning during a strike, achieving optimal discharge efficiency and a larger protection range.

Compared to standard passive protection systems (e.g., Franklin lightning rods), this method expands the protected area and provides a higher and wider protection radius for buildings.

The Early Streamer Emission (ESE) system is a high-tech lightning protection system that requires no auxiliary energy source. NIMBUS draws energy from the electromagnetic field (self-generated during thunderstorms, ranging between 10–20 kV/m) to produce high-voltage pulses.

When lightning is about to occur, the surrounding electric field produces a corona discharge effect. At this point, NIMBUS autonomously generates ions to absorb the positive (or negative) ions in the field, neutralizing the corona discharge around the electric field. If the electric field is too strong to be fully absorbed, the system guides the lightning current to the ground, preventing structural damage from lightning strikes.
