Detection Principle of Corn Moisture Content Meter
Corn, also known as maize, is a cereal grain and an important food crop. Instruments used to measure corn moisture content are called corn moisture meters, corn moisture testers, rapid corn moisture testers, maize moisture meters, or rapid maize moisture detectors, and are also referred to as grain moisture meters. They can be categorized by precision into low-precision and high-precision types. Generally, these instruments operate on the principle of oven heating and drying, utilizing a ring halogen lamp for rapid and uniform drying of grains such as corn, wheat, soybeans, and peanuts without damaging the sample surface. The software then automatically calculates the percentage difference in weight before and after drying relative to the initial weight, directly displaying the moisture content value on an electronic screen. The operation is simple and requires no manual calculation.
How to Use a Corn Moisture Meter
When the instrument is in the 0.000 state, place 5-10g of corn sample evenly on the sample tray of the moisture meter. Then, close the heating chamber cover and press the start button to begin heating. When the test is complete, the screen will automatically display the moisture content value of the sample. The process is intuitive and straightforward, requiring no manual calculations or complex training. Additionally, pressing the toggle button allows switching to parameters such as solid content.

Quality Standards for Corn Moisture Content
There are three main quality standards for corn: the basic national standard for corn, the national standard for feed corn, and the national standard for industrial corn. According to the national quality standard for corn, referenced in the national standard GB1353-2009, corn is divided into five grades based on factors such as bulk density, impurities, moisture content, imperfect grains, and color, odor, or mold indicators. These are fundamental and crucial metrics with broad representativeness. The standard moisture content for corn is set at 14% or below. Corn purchased for national grain reserves typically has a moisture content of 14% or lower after drying, with a maximum allowable limit of 14.5%.
Purchase Standards for Corn with Different Moisture Content
Formula for calculating corn price based on moisture content: Wet grain price / [1 - {(Wet grain moisture - 14) * Discount rate} / 100] = Dry grain price
Application Range and Significance of Corn Moisture Meters
Corn and wheat moisture content meters can be widely used in any industry that requires moisture content measurement. Their operation is very simple, requiring no manual calculations or complex training, making them suitable for meeting the moisture measurement needs of various sectors. Rapid corn moisture testers are extensively used in the grain purchasing industry to measure the moisture content of crops such as corn, wheat, soybeans, sunflowers, peanuts, oats, buckwheat, sorghum, barley, rye, japonica rice, indica rice, glutinous rice, upland rice, deepwater rice, millet, broomcorn millet, adzuki beans, mung beans, cassava, sweet potatoes, white potatoes, and potatoes. Hence, they are also referred to as grain moisture meters, grain moisture testers, or grain moisture detectors. Due to their use of a ring halogen lamp oven drying method, which enables rapid drying of samples, they are also called halogen rapid moisture analyzers. As the peak season for grain harvesting approaches, the demand for moisture meters continues to grow. Moisture content meters are not only critical for determining grain purchase prices but also provide effective assurance for the safe storage and transportation of grains through accurate moisture content detection.
