Bergenin, with the chemical name 4-methoxy-1,3-benzenediol-2-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, is extracted from the dried rhizomes of plants such as those in the Saxifragaceae family, including Bergenia. It appears as white, loose needle-like crystals or crystalline powder, odorless, with a slightly bitter taste. It is prone to deterioration when exposed to light or heat, readily soluble in methanol, and slightly soluble in water.
