Heavy metal capturing agents are chemical agents that chelate with ions. Heavy metal capturing agents are liquid metal precipitants. They can precipitate metal ions, reducing the concentration of metal ions in wastewater. Compared to conventional techniques for precipitating high concentrations of metal ions, it is considered one of the alternative methods.
A good heavy metal capturing agent, due to its strong chelating properties, reacts not only under normal temperature and a wide range of conditions but is also unaffected by the concentration of heavy metal ions. Even if the wastewater contains complexing agents, it can precipitate various heavy metal ions in one step, bringing the wastewater up to discharge standards.

There are two main synthetic pathways for heavy metal capturing agents: one involves monomers containing chelating groups prepared through addition polymerization, condensation polymerization, step-growth polymerization, or ring-opening polymerization; the other utilizes synthetic or natural polymers to introduce chelating functional groups via polymer chemical reactions. In practical research and application, the most commonly used heavy metal capturing agents fall into two categories: xanthate esters and dithiocarbamate derivatives (DTC class), with DTC derivatives being the most widely used. Dosing and Usage Requirements Heavy metal capturing agents should be dosed at the point after the secondary sedimentation tank and used in conjunction with original PAM. They can be added in conventional treatment processes. They are easy to mix and dilute with water. Therefore, they can be diluted with water to any required concentration to meet the capacity requirements of the dosing pump. High-quality dilution water with a near-neutral pH should be used. The product can be applied in high-turbulence areas, such as pump suction inlets. In practice, when adding the heavy metal capturing agent to the solution, the treated water should be stirred to allow the metal precipitates to fully react before settling. Storage tanks can be made of polypropylene, stainless steel (304 or 316), or high-density cross-linked polyethylene (HDCLPE). Rigid PVC, stainless steel, HDCLPE, polypropylene, Viton, Buna-N rubber, and polyethylene are recommended for piping and installation materials. Avoid using carbon steel, brass, zinc, and other metallic materials for piping and storage tanks.
Packaging and Storage Heavy metal capturing agents are liquid mixtures, packaged in 25Kg containers. They should be stored in a cool, dry environment. Keep the container tightly closed when not in use. Avoid freezing.
