1. What is ISO14001?

2. Main Features

② Emphasis on pollution prevention: Pollution prevention is the basic guiding principle of the ISO14001 standard, meaning that priority should be given to considering how to prevent and reduce pollution at the source rather than relying on end-of-pipe treatment;

③ Emphasis on continuous improvement: ISO14001 does not set absolute performance standards. On the basis of complying with laws and regulations, enterprises should compare their own performance over time and engage in continuous improvement, meaning doing better today than yesterday and better tomorrow than today;

④ Emphasis on systematic, procedural management and necessary documentation support;

⑤ Voluntary nature: The ISO14001 standard is not mandatory, and enterprises can independently choose whether to implement it based on their own needs;

3. Scope

This standard specifies the requirements for an environmental management system, enabling an organization to develop and implement an environmental policy and objectives based on legal and other requirements it must comply with, as well as information about significant environmental aspects. It applies to environmental aspects that the organization identifies as within its control or over which it can be expected to have an influence. However, the standard itself does not specify specific environmental performance criteria.

This standard applies to any organization that wishes to:

1. Establish, implement, maintain, and improve an environmental management system;

2. Assure itself of its conformity with its stated environmental policy;

3. Demonstrate conformity with this standard by:

Conducting self-evaluation and self-declaration

Seeking confirmation of its conformity by interested parties

Seeking external confirmation of its self-declaration

Seeking certification/registration of its environmental management system by an external organization

4. Application Conditions

Conditions that a company must meet to apply for ISO14001 certification:

1. Within one year prior to the application date, the company must not have been penalized by local environmental authorities and must obtain a compliance certificate from the environmental protection department;

2. Pollutant emissions must comply with national or local pollutant emission standards;

3. The product for which certification is sought must be listed in the national catalog of environmental label products eligible for certification;

4. The product must comply with the national standards or technical requirements for environmental label products;

5. The product must be in normal mass production, with stable technical indicators;

6. An environmental label product guarantee system must be established;

7. The company must have a product quality certification certificate or a product production license, or a one-year product quality compliance certificate issued by an inspection agency recognized by provincial or higher standardization authorities;

8. Valid environmental monitoring reports, covering water, noise, air, etc., must be provided.
